Paul Kurtz

Paul Kurtz
“I love UB deeply.”

Paul Kurtz, PhD, professor emeritus of philosophy at UB, describes his 45 years of teaching at UB as a “great adventure” during which he was able to “take UB to the world” through his students and lectures on all continents. Calling himself a planetary humanist, Kurtz is credited with birthing the secular humanism movement and founding modern skepticism. Living a joyful life is part of his journey, he says, and one way he derives pleasure and meaning is by giving back to the place that allowed him to thrive. His gifts will establish the Paul Kurtz Lecture Series and bring notable speakers to campus to talk about the philosophy of humanism “to benefit the development of critical intelligence” of UB students.
