As a freshman music performance major at the Eastman School of Music, Shohini Sen realized she wanted to study chemistry at UB. A clarinet player since age 12, Shohini had taken a UB summer chemistry class—CHE 102—just before college and “couldn’t stop thinking of chemistry after that.”

Now immersed in the study of theoretical chemistry, Shohini received an Honors College donor-supported scholarship to continue research in that field. Shohini tutors high school students in biology through UB’s Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Partnership program.

On track to graduate in 2014 with BS degrees in chemistry and medicinal chemistry, Shohini plans to attend graduate school and teach at a major research university. As for the clarinet, she still plays.
