Gifts to UB help students build their lives.

Shawn Evilsizor played with Lincoln Logs and took things apart as a child. Math and science were his favorite subjects, and on family trips, he would look at how a bridge had been constructed, rather than at the river below, as the car drove over it. “Soon I will be designing something another child might think the same way about,” he says.

When Parkinson’s disease forced his father to stop working, Shawn decided to pay his own college expenses. “I knew it would push me to complete my goals.” Even so, he was grateful to receive two UB scholarships because “finishing my master’s degree wouldn’t have been possible without them.”

His ideal job will be designing buildings and other structures. “The challenge of engineering keeps me going,” he says.
