Giving to UB helps connect the dots to students’ success.

Margaret Montgomery became interested in nursing after her father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. She moved to Buffalo from Brooklyn, bringing with her a desire to forge a stable future for herself and her young son.

As a single mother at UB, she faced bills for tuition, books and childcare. A donor-supported scholarship helped her financially.

“It affirmed the belief that a larger community exists that is supportive of my success,” she says.

Her nursing education enabled her to care for her ailing father before his death. Margaret says she looks forward to a health care career. “Nursing made me aware of a connection that I wish to make with others.”
