Reaching Others

Katie Diebold

“Thanks to you, I'm going to build community coalitions to advance social justice.”

Katie Diebold wants to make changes. She was a campus activist and organizer as an undergraduate. She enrolled in a graduate program in women's studies but missed making a hands-on difference in the community around her. So she went to work as a refugee settlement case manager and started making a difference one life at a time. Now she's completing UB's master of social work program, with support from a Niles Carpenter Scholarship, named for the school's inaugural dean. Next year, if her dreams come true, she'll be networking community agencies to work for economic justice. A hard job, but someone as smart as Katie Diebold has to do it.
