“Thanks to you, I will research energy-saving technologies.”

Claire Lochner said she wouldn't have been able to enroll at UB without the Presidential Honors Scholarship granted to her as an incoming freshman. Attending meetings of the UB chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World inspired the history and classics double major to switch to electrical engineering, where she learned to “help preserve the environment, something I have been passionate about since childhood, taking countless weekend hikes and vacations at state parks.” Lochner credits UB for preparing her well for graduate school; she was awarded a fellowship to the University of California-Berkeley's electrical engineering graduate program and was recently chosen to take part in the National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship.
