Director of Development, School of Nursing

The Director of Development (“Director”) for the School of Nursing at the University at Buffalo (“the School”) is responsible for developing and implementing a fund-development program which successfully meets the School’s short- and long-term objectives for private support, with emphasis on an aggressive and growing major gifts program.  The School will play a key role in the University’s next campaign and beyond; an experienced major gift professional is needed to lead a development program through the planning and execution stages of the most ambitious campaign the University at Buffalo has ever initiated.   

Duties and assignments include, but are not limited to: developing strategy for a development program that successfully identifies, cultivates, solicits, acknowledges and stewards major prospects ($25K+ level) and increases annual giving as well; directing and supervising an administrative support staff member; working as the primary School major gift officer in a complex and growing university development environment, including providing fund-raising counsel to and travel with the Dean of the School and other academic leaders as required; developing and driving strategy for the Dean’s Advisory Council, an evolving volunteer group of alumni and friends; and representing the School’s development program at the University level and within the context of an approaching University-wide comprehensive campaign.     

Qualifications 
Required: 

Bachelor’s degree required.
Demonstrated experience managing a comprehensive integrated development program.
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
Three or more years of progressively successful major gift work in higher education or other complex organization.
Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Significant experience engaging leadership and volunteers and facilitating the development of meaningful relationships between them and prospective donors. 
Computer literacy and knowledge in database management. Preferred: 
Graduate or professional degree preferred.
Major gift work in a health-related field.
