It was because of love that Edward Rayhill, M.D. ’54, clinical associate professor emeritus in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, established a charitable gift annuity at the University at Buffalo. After he and his wife, Joanne, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Dr. Rayhill, who calls his wife “the love of my life,” says she was the first reason that he gave this gift.
A Buffalo native, he also considers the gift annuity a way to say thanks to UB for his education, which launched him on a successful career.
“When you look at it from a business sense, a gift annuity is a win-win arrangement. It’s a vehicle that provides a steady flow of income for the people that you love.”
Dr. Rayhill said he “grew up in a home full of love but no money,” attending Canisius College on a scholarship and “ending up at UB because he couldn’t afford to apply to any other colleges.” He worked summers as a mailman to pay for tuition and books.
