Founding dean supports School of Public Health and Health Professions

Dr. J. Warren Perry is known for his generosity to the UB School of Public Health and Health Professions. Serving 11 years as the founding dean, he retired, then made gifts for endowed scholarships for students in the Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and the Rehabilitation Science departments, and to a lecture series in his name. In addition, Perry has pledged $100,000, his largest gift to the school.

A Hoosier by birth and lover of opera, Perry earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Northwestern University and worked for the Social and Rehabilitation Service of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare before coming to UB in 1966.

A member of several area arts organizations boards, Perry has received numerous awards, including the UB Alumni Association’s Walter P. Cooke Award, presented to a non-alumnus for notable contributions to the university. In June 2003, he received the Red Jacket award – given by the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society for civic contributions and achievement in the community.
