A $2 million thank you

UB has benefitted from one prominent local leader's decision to give back to the community where he grew his business and raised his family: Sal Alfiero donated $2 million toward construction of a student-focused center in the School of Management. The Alfiero Center opened in April 2005.

The facility features a dramatic glass atrium, an Internet café, high-tech classrooms, academic- and career-advisement suites, an entrepreneurship suite, and dedicated space for student clubs, meetings, and group projects, with wireless computer technologies integrated throughout the building.

“This gift is simply my family’s way of acknowledging and thanking Western New York for its years of support,” Alfiero says. “I hope it will demonstrate to other people that we have some excellent institutions here that deserve our support—not just monetarily, but also in terms of time and effort.”

A trustee of the University at Buffalo Foundation, Alfiero serves on the boards of UB’s Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, the Buffalo Police Foundation, Kaleida Health, HSBC USA, Phoenix Home Life Mutual Insurance Co., Southwire Co., and Niagara Mohawk Holdings.
