The Korean Student Association

by Gina Lee-Glauser

Yong Ho Lee, my older brother, began his studies at UB in the late '70s. He was one of the first Korean undergraduate students who requested that the Student Association increase funding for the Korean Student Association. Prior to this point, the Student Association provided one hundred dollars to a group of graduate students who spent it at a bar.

Yong and his group decided to formally organize the association and started a festival where they performed Tae kwon do demonstrations, fan dances, Korean food tasting, etcetera. They contracted with a couple of traditional Korean fan dancers from New York City to teach undergraduate students to put a performance together for the annual festival.
