The Two-Headed Monster

by Leeland N. Jones, Jr.

Anytime we did anything we pushed together the students who were strongly in support of me when I was the student body president. We had a strike on campus - quite a big strike, even though The Buffalo Courier Express didn't want to play up that it was as big as it was. But I had a hard time even getting into the Norton Union building because of the huge crowds.

The day before I had every blackboard on the campus announcing that we were having this student rally. We were angry about the controller of the University being co-equal with the chancellor in terms of the handling of all our personal monies. We thought he was taking away our student monies which we wanted to go to the chancellor and the faculty. So we struck.

Eventually, it came to pass that we didn't have to contend with what I named at the time, "The Two-Headed Monster." The students were very strong in our rally. Now this was quite a bit of time before they had student strikes across the nation. The University at Buffalo has always been a very strong and liberal university.
