"This Is Where I Scored"

by Charles Tirone

The athletics department invites various alumni at different times to go on trips with them. I was invited to go to a UB football game against Connecticut. I think four of us went.

Vince Bonerb, who was older than I, was my roommate. Vince was very happy to go, because, he said, he had scored the winning touchdown against the University of Connecticut 50 years previously.

We were walking down the sidelines by the team. Vince looks at the corner of the end zone, and he goes, "This is where I scored."

Which was a tongue-in-cheek remark, because the University of Connecticut had a nice new stadium. It wasn't where he scored at all. But he had scored in the end zone of the University of Connecticut's old stadium.

He says, "I come back every 50 years to see this."
