The Gray Bulls

by Craig Cirbus

There's a group of guys from the 40s and 50s called the Gray Bulls, who have incredible pride in their football years at UB. They still meet every month and are mostly made up of the Lambert Cup Team from 1958 and prior. The Lambert Cup Team is an award given each year to the number one team in the East. The University at Buffalo won it with their great team in 1958. It's the only Lambert Cup we've ever won.

Some of the former great athletes at UB are Pete Rao, who passed away and used to coach for Bill Dando, George Voshkershian, Bob Lipp, Don Hofmar (who started our Hall of Fame), Matt Ferrentino from the '40s, Willie Evans, Dr. Gicewicz, Paul Snyder, Don Gilbert, a great player of the 60s, Les Molnar, and Bob Rich, Sr., who played in 1935.

I saw many of the Gray Bulls at the opening game against Akron. Seeing their pride and fulfillment because big league football was back - that was the highlight of all the struggles we've had in finding our place in Division IA so far.
